Evan Smith has been working as an educator and performer in Newfoundland for the last decade. From 2008 to 2013 Evan worked extensively with the Stephenville Theatre Festival (STF), returning annually as Musical Director, keyboard player, vocal coach, and a featured performer. While at STF he directed, composed and performed in over 25 shows. Since moving to St. John’s in 2010, Evan has performed with the Philharmonic Choir (PCNSO), The Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra (NSO) and the Quintessential Vocal Ensemble (QVE) with whom he travelled to New York in the Spring of 2014 to perform as a guest at Carnegie Hall.

He has served as musical director for numerous local companies including Spirit of Newfoundland, Red Dress Entertainment and Theatre St John’s. Some of his favourite MD credits include British Invasion (TSJ), Mamma Mia (TSJ), Once (TSJ), Skeet Snobs and Peppermint Nobs (Spirit) , and Pianomen: The Music of Elton John and Billy Joel which he starred in and produced. In the Fall of 2017, Evan had the pleasure of being associate MD for the world premiere of The Hockey Sweater in Montreal. In 2019 he looks forward to musical directing We Will Rock You (TADA) and Be More Chill (Best Kind Productions). Evan holds the positions of Music Director at Cochrane Street United Church, vocal coach at Memorial University’s School of Music and Production Manager with Spirit of Newfoundland. Along with his wife, Tiffany, Evan co-operates Unison Music Studio, a private music school providing quality instruction to students in piano and voice. In his spare time Evan enjoys taking his golden doodle, Ruby, for walks and spending time with his new son, Harrison.
